Countess Luann checks into rehab after arrest for drunkenly assaulting a police officer
One week after The Real Housewives of New York City star Countess Luann de Lesseps was arrested in Florida and charged with four felonies after an alleged drunken assault on a police officer, the reality star has announced she is seeking help by checking herself into an alcohol treatment facility.
“After the events of last Saturday night in Palm Beach, I am truly embarrassed,” Luann begins, in a statement posted on her social media accounts earlier today. “I have decided to seek professional guidance and will be voluntarily checking into an alcohol treatment center.”
Luann continues by expressing her hopes that her embarrassing headline-grabbing antics and resulting arrest will end up changing her life for the better. “I intend to turn this unfortunate incident into a positive life changing event,” she states confidently.
She continues by expressing remorse for her actions, especially assaulting a cop and threatening the arresting officers by screaming at them: “I’m going to f**king kill you…going to f**king kill all of you!” From Luann:
Once again, I sincerely apologize for my actions. I have the greatest respect for police officers and the job they do. My actions alleged in the police report do not reflect my core values and my law abiding character. I am so grateful for the love and support that I am receiving from my family, friends and loyal supporters.
I do want to point out that the statement is carefully worded so that Luann doesn’t actually admit to doing anything specific. She mentions “my actions alleged in the police report,” but that’s it. I assume this is just Luann being smart from a legal standpoint as it will allow her some flexibility when it comes to making a deal with prosecutors. I also assume that checking herself into rehab will help in those plea negotiations as well.
This apology is actually Luann’s second as she previously apologized for the incident and blamed the fact that she was in Palm Beach again for the first time since her ill-fated wedding to Tom D’Agostino Jr. one year ago tonight.
Bravo has since issued a statement in regards to Luann’s rehab stay: “Bravo supports Luann’s decision to get help, and we wish her strength during her recovery process.”
Of course we wish Luann the best and also hope she gets the help she needs.
