When we first meet singer Dominic Fike’s character Elliot during Episode 1 of Euphoria Season 2, it’s immediately obvious that he has an eye-catching face tattoo. In the place where a tear-drop tattoo would traditionally be, there’s a corporate Apple logo, which is an outline of an apple with a bite taken out of it. Is this Dominic Fike’s real tattoo? If so, why did he make this choice?

In episode 2 of Euphoria Season 2 Rue makes a devastating decision that even at the season’s close we still haven’t seen the full consequences of for her: she takes a $10,000 suitcase of drugs from drug dealer Laurie with the promise that she can run a drug ring at school. What will happen to Rue now that the drugs are gone?

There is so much Euphoria that is psychologically true. It exposes the grit and despair of life through the lenses of addiction, grief, abuse, and other difficult topics in a way that’s so painfully aware it’s cathartic. Still, there’s a lot about the show that isn’t real at all: from how they dress at school, to how anyone is passing class, and so much more. Even as they depict situations that a lot of teens can relate to, often the characters act or in situations more relatable to people a little older. The biggest break with reality, IMO, however, besides Rue running from the police like she was in a Bugs Bunny chase scene, has to be how a high school in an economically challenged area was able to put on such an elaborate stage play with sets and production to rival Broadway.

The place and time of HBO’s enthralling show Euphoria seem eerily familiar, but also far away. The town could almost be anywhere in the U.S., and the time period seems like anytime since the 90s. Where and when is Euphoria supposed to be.
