Leah Messer has officially broken her silence following the news that she lost primary custody of her twin daughters.

In a cover interview with UsWeekly, Leah says “It was like a slap in the face” when she learned that a judge had awarded primary custody of 5-year-olds Aleeah and Aliannah to Corey Simms. The judgment came on October 7, and gives Simms custody Monday through Friday–leaving Messer only the weekends.

Leah tells Us that the swap happened after Corey accused her of repeatedly not getting the girls to kindergarten on time. Leah insists that this isn’t true. She did admit to one tardy but claims that other alleged tardies were fabricated. To challenge them, she set up a meeting with her local school board on October 19th. According to Leah, “I talked to the superintendent and I’m sending them the [time-stamped] pictures I took to prove the girls were not tardy. They’re going to take them off.”

School officials could not be reached for comment.

Leah has also filed a motion to reconsider the custody change. She hopes to eventually share 50/50 custody with Corey.

Leah adds, “I feel like they should have both of us in their lives. At the end of the day, my kids are going to be happy, and I don’t care what I have to do to make them happy.”
