Real life is always stranger and more amazing than fiction!
At first glance the above image may look like one huge bird hovering in the sky but in fact it’s an amazing outline formed by a flock of starlings.
The unbelievable formation came about due to the threat of a nearby peregrine falcon.
Once the flock spotted the predator they grouped together to mimick the appearance of a massive flying creature. The incredible snaps were taken by Rob Wolstenholme at Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve in Somerset.
Beautiful (and I bet it scared the crap out of that falcon)! You can click on the image for a full page view.
