Kendall & Kylie apologize for ‘not well thought out’ t-shirts with Tupac, Pink Floyd, The Doors and more

It appears that the huge marketing blunder that was Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi protest commercial was not an isolated incident for the young celebrity as she and sister Kylie are currently caught up in another PR catastrophe after launching a line of “vintage tees” featuring iconic music artists like Tupac, The Doors, and Notorious B.I.G. with the sisters’ faces, initials, and/or Instagram photos superimposed on top.

The Jenner siblings have been promoting the release of their vintage tee collection all week, but shortly after the $125 shirts went live on their Kendall + Kylie website, the backlash began. Within hours, the shirts were deleted from the website and both Kendall and Kylie shared this public apology on Twitter:

These designs were not well thought out and we deeply apologize to anyone that has been upset and/or offended, especially to the families of the artists. We are huge fans of their music and it was not our intention to disrespect these cultural icons in anyway. The tee shirts have been pulled from retail and all images have been removed. We will use this as an opportunity to learn from these mistakes and again, we are very sorry.

Kendall mentions the “families of the artists” specifically — some of which had already condemned the shirt line. Sharon Osbourne took to Twitter to scold the Jenner gals or the use of her husband’s image:

The estate of Notorious B.I.G. took things one step further and sent the Jenners a cease and desist letter! “This is misappropriation at its finest,” says the estate’s attorney Julian K. Petty. “I’m curious to hear the justification. I’m even more curious to hear the proposed resolution.”

Biggie Smalls’ momma Voletta Wallace was having NONE OF IT either:

Here are some more samples from the collection, combined with a couple we created inspired by the originals — see if you can tell which is which! (HINT: It should be fairly obvious.)

Does anyone else wince even more at the ones with the “kk” logo over top of black artists? I’m just super glad Kendall and Kylie didn’t have one other sister involved, you know what I mean?
