Nicki Minaj calls Steven Tyler a racist after he uses Bob Dylan to make a point

Sometimes I just have to write these bad rascals up because of the wonderful pop name associations. I figured the opportunity may never come again to refer to Nicki Minaj, Steven Tyler and Bob Dylan in the same post so I better get to it before the times they start a changing.

Former American Idol judge Steven Tyler shared his feelings in regards to this year’s batch of celebrity judges, especially Nicki Minaj, to MTV. The lead singer of Aerosmith said in part:

“You just have to give your opinion. It wasn’t hard for me, but I would imagine it’s hard for some people, and they need a manager to say ‘Shut the f— up, and just give them your opinion.’ These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they’re in New York City, they’re scared to death; you’re not going to get the best [out of them]. … If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying.”

Wait a minute. Did Steven Tyler just use the most influential artist in recorded music history [Bob Dylan] as a reference point for how they helped last year’s victor Phillip Phillips along? Phillips was fine but come on man! Anywho, Minaj took offense to the reference as well but in a whole different fashion. The singer, rapper cut loose on Tyler accusing him of being a racist via Twitter.

Here was Minaj’s responses:

Nicki Minaj offended by Steven Tyler because of Bob Dylan comment

I completely understand Minaj’s angst and point about being ridiculed before Tyler had ever seen her judge anyone but I can’t see where his comments could be misconstrued as being racist. I guess the answer to that my friends is blowing in the wind.

The point here is really moot because no judge, none, notta, zippo, zero, for American Idol would’ve ever “worked” with a young Bob Dylan. It’s apples and oranges, the nature of the show doesn’t have flexibility for overall artistic excellence. By all accounts Bob Dylan does not have a traditionally smooth voice although I am of the opinion that no one can sing his songs as well as he does which means he sings many of the greatest songs ever written better than anyone else.

So was Tyler being a racist? No, I don’t think so. But would he and his panel last year have nurtured a Bob Dylan to win the grand prize for AI? The answer for that would be an even more assertive no. Heck, that’s borderline idiot wind.

I wonder what Bob thinks about all of this?

There’s a whole lot of people suffering tonight
From the disease of conceit
Whole lot of people struggling tonight
From the disease of conceit
Comes right down the highway
Straight down the line
Rips into your senses
Through your body and your mind
Nothing about it that’s sweet
The disease of conceit

There’s a whole lot of hearts breaking tonight
From the disease of conceit
Whole lot of hearts shaking tonight
From the disease of conceit
Steps into your room
Eats your soul
Over your senses
You have no control
Ain’t nothing too discreet
About the disease of conceit

There’s a whole lot of people dying tonight
From the disease of conceit
Whole lot of people crying tonight
From the disease of conceit
Comes right out of nowhere
And you’re down for the count
From the outside world
The pressure will mount
Turn you into a piece of meat
The disease of conceit

Conceit is a disease
That the doctors got no cure
They’ve done a lot of research on it
But what it is, they’re still not sure

There’s a whole lot of people in trouble tonight
From the disease of conceit
Whole lot of people seeing double tonight
From the disease of conceit
Give ya delusions of grandeur
And a evil eye
Give you the idea that
You’re too good to die
Then they bury you from your head to your feet
From the disease of conceit

If Minaj wants to make a point she should cover Dylan’s song. Now that would be bad ass.

She’s a stupid woman. Here we go, shouting RACISM again when there is nothing of the sort.

    • Sara

She needs to go crawl back under a rock. She’s a friggin idiot and should be ashamed of herself. A**hole. He should sue her pathetic ass for making such derogatory statements that have absolutely no merit. Insignificant twit.

Diva behavior is only cute in three year olds. And even then, it’s not that cute. This girl needs to learn impulse control in the worst way. There are only so many people you can insult before no one wants to work with your difficult behind.

There’s a time when people need to just learn to shut up before they start spewing completely ignorant statements such as this. Bob Dylan is a legend in the music industry, as is Stephen Tyler. Nicki take you and your ten different personalities and go away.

I didn’t get anything racial out of that. If anything, it would have been an age thing…which has nothing to do w/race! Some people like to bitch just to bitch, making something out of nothing!

    • ohhhhno

I want to slam my head into a wall even hearing Bob Dylan and Nicki Minaj named in the same sentence.

    • Mickey

Then again this is the same idiot who is blaming DJs for her bad record sales…

    • Burkey

Apparently no one has told Nicki yet that she is completely irrelevant to anyone who values and understands REAL music and artists. The fact that she thinks anyone even cares what she has to say is funny to me and I honestly think American Idol made a HUGE mistake hiring her. I can understand they want different personalities from different genres of music but there are SO MANY other people from the hip hop/rap genre that would sooooo much better for this job. Such an idiot.

Maybe I’ve been living under a rock for the last few decades, but can someone explain to me how the cornfield remark was racist? What am I missing here?

    • Huh?

And then she goed for romney …. What a stoppid bitch….
