What Not to Wear’s Stacy London reveals struggle with eating disorders
The charismatic and fan-favorite host of What Not to Wear, Stacy London, has revealed that she suffered from eating disorders. She joins other notable names such as Katie Couric and Lady Gaga in a trend of celebs discussing this topic in hopes of shining a light on the terrible, and often secretive, epidemic.
In the upcoming issue of PEOPLE London, 43, opens up about her personal battles with anorexia and compulsive overeating. Her struggles happened in her early 20s.
“I felt like I’d never had a serious boyfriend and I really wanted to be attractive. “When you can talk about something and shine light on it, you’re obliterating shame. And that to me was always the really hard part – to feel so filled with shame and having no recourse to thinking it could get better. Now my value doesn’t simply come from [being thin]. It comes from me and solely from me. It took me a long time to recognize that.”
At one point the seemingly confidant 5’7″ London got down to a weight of only 90lbs. Following a brief hospitalization because of her drastic weight loss, Stacy countered by binge eating. In just one year she doubled her weight to 180 lbs.
London will be addressing these issues and more in her upcoming book The Truth About Style, on bookshelves Oct 2.
