VIDEOS The Revenant wins big at Golden Globes
The Revenant, a historical drama about a fur trapper determined to exact vengeance, was the big winner from last night’s 73rd annual Golden Globes award ceremony.
Leonardo DiCaprio cemented his place as the front-runner to win his first Best Actor Oscar when he was voted Best Actor in a Drama. DiCaprio received a standing ovation after the announcement. The actor said, “Two years ago we found ourselves submerged deep in nature with all of its complications and all the beauty that it gave us cinematically. This film was about survival, adaptation. It was about the triumph of the human spirit but more than anything it was about trust.”
Alejandro González Iñárritu won for Best Director. It’s an amazing run, after he won Best Director at last year’s Oscars for Birdman. In a speech that highlighted the difficulties of the harsh locations where The Revenant was filmed, Iñárritu said, “We all know in this room that pain is temporary but a film is forever.”
After those big wins, The Revenant closed out the ceremony by taking home the top prize-Best Motion Picture (Drama).
