Last night at the Super Bowl Christina Aguilera messed up the lyrics to “The National Anthem!”
The blond pop star completely left out “O’er the ramparts we watched,” which is a shame because we so rarely get the opportunity to use the word “rampart.”
Thus thrown off, Christina then repeated a modified version of the second verse. Instead of “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?” she sang “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming.”
This is the Super Bowl baby! Study your lines!
UPDATE! Christina has issued a statement about her flub, and blames in on her patriotism.
“I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place.
“I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”
