AMC has released a dramatic new teaser trailer for the second half of The Walking Dead Season 5 and it seems to ask more questions than it answers. Like, where is Carl? What’s that song playing? And is Rick’s beard real or fake?
Here’s the clip:
In the video it appears as though the group unloads a whole lot of bullets on something, and then seem a bit surprised at what they were shooting at. All of this happens as Rick says, “Surviving. Surviving together is all that matters. It’s all that matters.”
Although the song used in the clip still remains a mystery, as does Carl’s absence (although he could very well be bay-sitting his sister Judith, right?), one redditor who claims to have worked on the video clears up the questions about Rick’s beard at least:
freeradicalx I work for the company that shot and edited this promo! I was incredibly psyched when I learned we got the job and we had buckets of fun making it. We’re a small company so everyone was really close to the production, and I’ve gotta say the folks at AMC are some of the best clients we’ve ever had, really nice people all around. If anyone has any questions about it that I can answer (I can’t disclose some stuff of course) I will.
FireRising What was your role? Meet anyone interesting?
freeradicalx I’m the studio’s IT manager and we’re in New York City, so I wasn’t on set (They shot outside the backlot down in Atlanta, while season 5a was airing). My job is too keep all our data safe, keep our creative workstations running well and address any in-studio tech issues. My boss is our creative director and also shot everything, and our executive producer went down there with him as well. They got to meet and spend some time with all the cast members in the promo and I’ve been extremely jealous since. They were both impressed by how the entire cast can seemingly just “turn on” their characters for emotional shots like these.
Oh and to address talk about Lincoln’s beard elsewhere in this thread: It’s a fake beard. The season had just wrapped filming when they shot this and he was already clean-shaven IRL. Glad that no one seems to be sure if it’s real or not! Props as usual to AMC’s makeup team.
UPDATE – freeradicalx returned to share information about the song:
So my producer just explained why I couldn’t find the song: Because it was composed exclusively for this trailer. AMC apparently already had a rough version of the track and plans to use it at some point, and thought it matched the spot well so that they had a composer finish it up and sent it to us as part of the spot’s audio mix. So… This is literally the only place the song has ever been used, and it will probably stay that way.
Also notably missing from the clip are Father Gabriel and Noah. Hmmmm…
