VIDEO TLC’s Seeking Sister Wife polygamy dating series to premiere January 18
TLC knows how to capitalize on a good thing! The network has just announced a brand new reality series that combines two of its tried and true concepts — polygamy and looking for love — called Seeking Sister Wife.
Check out the preview trailer and meet the three couples looking to add a sister wife to their growing families:
So in addition to the expected issues with adding a sister wife, the premiere season looks to include one family having legal issues similar to the Browns in that they risk being arrested if found out, and also a potential catfish situation?! Sign me up!
For me, the only red flag was the Snowden family (the black couple) because everything about their story seems to suggest they might be doing the show just to be on a show. Unlike the other families, the Snowdens don’t have a sister wife yet, and their issues (her mom not being OK with it, and also the awkward jealousy issues over the husband having sex with another woman) are a bit generic and exactly what you would expect if you were scripting this particular concept.
Plus, Dimitri and Ashley seem really hip and exactly the kind of couple that would agree to do a show like Seeking Sister Wife because why not? They could be completely sincere, though. And they may be awesome people that I’d like to sip on an IPA with — all I’m saying is that my reality show drenched brain is seeing some not-so-real red flags with them.
I will quit my poo pooing now 🙂 Here’s the scoop on the cast members from TLC, starting with the Snowdens:
Ashley and Dimitri Snowden are an African-American family who live in Atlanta, Georgia with their two adorable children, ages two and four. To the naked eye, they are a typical family–the only difference is that they are on the hunt for a sister wife. Ashley is on her third and last pregnancy, but she and Dimitri want to continue expanding their family. Although the couple recently experienced the heartache of a plural relationship that went sour, they are ready to start looking again for a compatible and committed woman who wants to have children. The Snowdens do not subscribe to the Mormon faith, but they have a spiritual union and adhere to a moral code. They have purposefully abstained from a legal marriage under the eyes of the law in order to ensure equality with their future wife.
Jeff, Vanessa, and Sharis Alldredge are a fundamentalist Mormon family. Jeff met Vanessa and Sharis within a year of each other, and spiritually married both. They have seven children combined, all under the age of seven, and they live together in one house where the women share the household duties. As polygamists, the Alldredges believe their family is never complete and they plan to expand their family as large as God sees fit. They are actively dating and in search of their third wife.
Drew, April, Auralee, and Angela Briney learn that adding a new family member can cause a lot of turmoil in the plural lifestyle. After a two-week courtship, Drew Briney recently married his third wife Angela. Now he and his three wives–along with their 15 children–are all moving into the same house together. April is Drew’s first and legal wife, and she has no qualms exercising control over the other wives. And although April and Auralee have known each other for years, they don’t always see eye to eye. Angela–the newest wife–had trouble conceiving for 20 years, but is now pregnant just months after joining the family! While April and Auralee are excited to love Angela, they hardly know her. All three women are trying to establish their new normal, but it is a bumpy ride.
Seeking Sister Wife premieres Sunday, January 14th at 10/9c on TLC, right after a brand new episode of Sister Wives.
