When The Little Couple‘s Jen Arnold announced she was in remission from choriocarcinoma in February, she didn’t want to say the cancer was completely eradicated.
“I’m hesitant to say I’m cancer-free – maybe that’s common for people who have had cancer – I’m doing great,” she said at the time. “Everything is moving in the right direction.”
Now, the mother-of-two is confident enough to confirm she is without a trace of cancer!
“I am cancer-free,” Jen announced to a cheering audience during Arsenio this week.
Jen also spoke about why she and husband Bill Klein decided to share her health problems with the public on the latest season of their TLC show — explaining they took time to figure out her treatment plan and make sure they were comfortable as a family before opening up to cameras.
“We were documenting finalizing out adopting process in the hopes that we’ll raise awareness for international adoption as well and didn’t expect to also have a new health issue to kind of come up. It was challenging,” she said. “Then I realized it’s like everything else we’ve been through in our lives that this was another opportunity because I know I’m not the only one who’s going through battling cancer.”
Bill added that’s been the general way they’ve approached their show.
“It turns out that we have a lot of things that are very in common with everyone else,” he said. “It started off with we’re two short folks — with how we’re different — and it turns out there we’re really the same as everybody else out there.”
Noting the audience “sprung to their feet” after hearing Jen’s announcement about being cancer-free, Arsenio said Bill and Jen seem to inspire a certain kind of love from fans.
“It’s deeper than anything I’ve ever seen. You all show the real front of your house and, as a result of it, people come to your house. Not bad people, but people who love you,” Arsenio said. “You can give other answers, I’m sure. But there is a deeper love for you two than a lot of reality stars.”
Showing part of why they are so endearing, Bill gave an example of one such encounter with a fan.
“They come to the door, you know, knocking, 10:30 at night on Christmas Eve. It wasn’t Santa,” he joked with Jen laughing along with him. “We have an intercom at the front door and I picked up the phone and said he. He said, ‘Hey, I just wanted to say hi.’ I said, ‘You know it’s 10:30 at night on Christmas Eve, right?’ ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah! Are they available?’ I said, ‘Well, this is one of they and nope.'”
Despite those odd situations, Jen said they’ve been fortunate that everyone’s been so wonderful… Although, if you watch any of their show, it really isn’t hard to see why the public seems to love Bill and Jen so much!
