Lady Gaga kicked off the 52nd Grammy Awards with a HUGE bang! She was introduced Broadway circus-style in front of an elaborate industrial Charles Dickensian “Fame Factory” set. Lady Gaga sprung up wearing a green glitter leotard with even more leg than usual showing, and even bigger, more exaggerated shoulder pads than usual!
She performed “Poker Face” before being thrown down a flaming “Rejection” chute and into the factory. More buildup and then out rolled a double-sided grand piano adorned with mannequin arms and being played on either side by Lady Gaga and Elton John, who were both blackened with soot and sporting over-sized glittery glasses. The two banged out a slightly altered rendition of Gaga’s “Speechless,” briefly lapsing into Elton’s “Your Song” during which EJ sang “How wonderful life is with Gaga in the world,” and Gaga reciprocated later by working in “Thank you Sir Elton John!”
Here is a nice quality clip of Lady G and Elton:
A lesser quality clip of Lady Gaga’s entire performance, including “Poker Face:”
Once again Lady Gaga proved she is the premiere entertainer going right now! Not only does she have a flair for the dramatic, but she can actually sing and play! Might have been a bad idea kicking off the show with her, though – it’s only downhill from there…
