VIDEO Idina Menzel flubs “Let it Go” high note on NYE, outraging millions
The Frozen anthem “Let it Go” was almost certainly the most-loved and most-hated song of 2014, so it’s fitting that that year would end with a minor “LiG” controversy. Idina Menzel took to the stage to perform the omnipresent hit during Ryan Seacrest’s presentation of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, and hit every one of her notes except the highest, which she faltered on for a moment before laying into a not-entirely-ineffective scream instead.
Here’s the videotape of Menzel’s performance:
Naturally, Twitter took to the flubbed note like an outcast princess to an isolated ice castle. All the world’s best vocal coaches came out of their own frozen woodwork to offer commentary:
That was the worst performance by a pro singer @idinamenzel. You normally are great. I don’t know what happened. That last high note…woof.

“Here’s the amazing Idina Menzel performing let it go” Idina: *totally butchers the song and screams the last high note.* — Olivia (@dontcallmelivv) January 1, 2015

Menzel herself remained silent for about 24 hours, before sharing this photo in a Tweet, accompanied by the simple caption “This is something I said in an interview a few months ago.”
Of course, it could also be that the furor over NoteFlubGate is just because everyone really is sick of “Let it Go”–including Menzel herself. In any case, filming of Frozen 2: Baby, It’s A Cold One is ongoing.
