The rumors are true: “Chipper Gaines Instagram” is now a thing. Fixer Upper‘s Chip Gaines, who has never to anyone’s knowledge turned down a bet (remember the dead roach he ate in Season Two?), couldn’t resist Joanna’s challenge. Unfortunately, the challenge to get Chipper Gaines Instagram didn’t involve Chip actually doing anything–which was what led to his downfall.
What was the bet? Check it out, via Joanna Gaines’ very active Instagram account:
“Guys,” Joanna says, “I just bet Chip that if I get 175,000 likes on this post, he has to be on Instagram.”
“No way,” responds a clearly skeptical Chip, who shakes his head the whole time. “A, there’s no way you’re getting 175,000 likes, and B, I’m not getting on Instagram. I’ll make that bet.”
With that, the two shook hands–and the fate of the great “Chipper Gaines Instagram” rush of 2015 was sealed.
To be fair to Chip, while Joanna does have a large and devoted Instagram following (770,000 as of this writing), most of her updates net somewhere between 15,000 and 30,000 likes.
To be fair to Joanna, though, Fixer Upper is one of the most popular shows on HGTV, and fans are rabid indeed. So it really wasn’t a huge surprise when Joanna’s challenge video got well over 175,000 likes in practically no time–in fact, it has over 204,000 as of this writing.
As Chip is a man of his word, he joined Instagram. Here are his first two posts:

There are only 75 days left until Fixer Upper Season Three debuts. Until then, we can all take great comfort and glee from the fact that Chipper Gaines’ internet presence has effectively doubled.
