STREET OUTLAWS David Bird Jones’ Camaro stolen from hotel parking lot
David “Bird” Jones, a frequent racer on Discovery’s popular Street Outlaws reality show, got out-outlawed this weekend as someone stole his 1967 Chevy Camaro race car, the 36-foot trailer it was on, and the Ford F-250 truck the trailer was hitched to from a Comfort Inn parking lot in Texas early Sunday morning.
David had taken his famous “Bird Is The Word” Camaro to a car show in Waco, Texas on Saturday, and was driving home to Kemp Saturday night when he pulled in to catch some winks at a Comfort Inn in Forest Hill, Texas. David says he was in his hotel room from 12:30AM until 5:10AM, when he discovered that his truck, trailer, and car were gone.
“I felt like if anybody cranked up my truck, I would hear it. Well, it was gone,” David told Fox 4. Grainy black-and-white hotel security video shows a man walking up to the truck at approximately 2:33AM, and at roughly 2:36AM he was pulling out of the parking lot.
On Sunday, David took to Facebook to issue a plea to fans for help apprehending the thief, and he offered a $13,500 reward. Here’s the post, which has been shared more than 62,000 times:
The total value of the truck, car, trailer, and engine taken in the theft is valued at over $100,000. According to Fox 4, David did have insurance, “but with all the modifications he’s done to it, Jones says he’s still out at least $40,000.”
Here are some slightly enhanced photos of the car, truck, and trailer as well as an alternate description of everything that was stolen from WFAA:
• A 1967 Camaro with a 740 cubic inch aluminum big block Chevrolet engine and a “very noticeable” paint job
• A 36-foot Maxey Air Ride flatbed trailer
• A silver 2002 Ford F-250 with an 8.5-inch lift kit, 20-inch black wheels and pink license plates that say “OGBIRD.”
I have to confess that I am astonished that someone just walked up, broke into the truck, and drove off! Of course we wish David the best in getting his stuff back.
