Sparklehorse frontman Mark Lincous commits suicide
Saturday (March 6, 2010) Mark Linkous, the frontman of indie alt-country/blues/pop band Sparklehorse. He shot himself in the heart at his home in Knoxville, Tennessee.
47-year-old Linkous never experienced breakout success and fame, but throughout his entire career he worked at carving out a solid place for himself in the music industry. After failing to make waves in the mainstream ’80s music scene, he started calling himself Sparklehorse and released four ablums between 1995 and 2006, which were critically acclaimed and earned him a devoted following to his unique sound with took sweet pop melodies and added bluesy, country twangs and even abrasive distortion. He’s collaborated with The Flaming Lips, Daniel Johnston, Danger Mouse and Nina Persson.
His most recent work with with Danger Mouse and David Lynch for an album/photo book called “Dark Night of the Soul,” which was held up for quite some time over legal issues and ended up being leaked on the internet. Just early this week it was announced that the project was moving forward and would be officially released.
Here’s a collaboration with The Flaming Lips for a Daniel Johnston song.
