Katy Perry took her sugary pop to the streets of New York City this morning performing her smash hit “California Gurls” as part of the Today Show Toyota Concert Series.
Not only was the vivacious singer’s “pop” sugary, so was her fashion and set! Katy Strawperry Shortcake brought the sugary sweet themes from the “California Gurls” music video along with her to create the illusion of a Candyland fantasy world – the perfect backdrop for her song and for her yummy good looks!

I’ve admitted many times that I am a “sucker” for Katy Perry at times, especially when she gives herself over to fun (fun music, fun fashion and fun spirit) and she had all of that going for her today! She once again managed to upstage her sexiness with playfulness (much like Lady Gaga can upstage her sexiness with artiness) making for an all-ages performance with lots of eye candy and visual calories for kids and adults alike!
(None of this is to say that Katy Perry isn’t sexy here – quite the contrary! – but her sexiness is joyfully silly and not trashy or vulgar. Perhaps I’m kidding myself?)
