Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin in the movie Game Change

Straight from the WTF Files is this latest bit of casting news: Julianne Moore will be portraying 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in the HBO movie Game Change based on John Heilemann and Mark Halperin’s book by the same title based on the 2008 presidential campaigns. (Note, we Photoshopped the above photo when the casting news came out, before Julianne actually stepped into the Palin coif, glasses, and you betcha’s.)

From Deadline.com:

Oscar-nominated actress Julianne Moore will portray the former Alaska governor in the project, which will chronicle Palin’s burst into the national scene as a surprise vice presidential candidate in 2008. Directing Game Change is Jay Roach, director of the Meet the Parents movies as well as the HBO film Recount, which examined the aftermath of the 2000 presidential election with a focus on the Florida recount.

It’s a pretty close resemblance.

UPDATE: Game Change, based on the book of the same title, is set to debut March 2012 on HBO. In addition to Moore as Palin, GC features Ed Harris as John McCain, and Woody Harrelson as Steve Schmidt (McCain’s campaign chair.)
