Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar granted permanent custody of nephew
Court papers reveal that 19 Kids and Counting stars Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have been granted permanent full custody of their 8-year-old great-nephew Tyler Wayne Hutchins.
They were given temporary custody of Tyler on August 31st of this year and their guardianship was made permanent on November 21, according to Entertainment Tonight. Tyler’s mother, Rachel Hutchins, is the niece of family matriarch Michelle Duggar.
Hutchins, who was arrested for felony charges of breaking and entering, initially gave up custody of her son to Michelle’s sister Carolyn. Michelle and Jim Bob stepped in after Carolyn suffered a stroke and was no longer able to take care of the child.
The Duggar’s petition seeking custody argued that Hutchins, “recently exhibited a pattern of behavior demonstrating that she is presently unable to meet Tyler’s health, safety, and other needs.” Rachel Hutchins signed off on the guardianship and agreed to supervised visitations with her son.
The family stirred up a little controversy recently when they shared a photo of Tyler as well as Josh and Anna Duggar’s son Michael showing off their very own embossed pocket utility knives.
