Man causes girlfriend’s miscarriage with abortion smoothie
A Norwegian man is currently facing seven years in prison over slipping abortion pills into his pregnant girlfriend’s smoothie. She was 12 weeks pregnant at the time, and the unnamed man claims his actions were “the only way out,” though he did not feel remorse over his actions.
“He had tried several times to convince me to have an abortion but it was not an option for me,” his 20-year-old (ex)girlfriend testified in court. He initially tried to get her to take abortion pills he purchased online by saying they were painkillers. When that ploy didn’t work, he bought a new batch of pills, and mixed them into a smoothie. She drank the smoothie, suffered abdominal cramps, and miscarried her baby.
He said afterwards he felt like a “like a total sh!tbag” when he realized what he had done. His lawyer is arguing that the seven year sentence the prosecution is pursuing is “totally wrong, especially considering that he has confessed and has custody over a child from before.”
If this case sounds familiar, we previously covered a similar case in Florida in which 28-year-old John Andrew Weldon tricked his girlfriend into taking abortion pills by telling her they were antibiotics. He was initially charged with first-degree murder, but he later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of product tampering and conspiracy to commit mail fraud. A judge sentenced him to 13 years and 8 months in prison.
