Khloe Kardashian engaged to Tristan Thompson (as soon as he pops the question)

It seems that Khloe Kardashian wasn’t just kidding around when she recently said that she had a burning desire to move to Cleveland and start a family with the Cavaliers’ Tristan Thompson. You can be forgiven for having a hard time seeing lifelong Californian Khloe settling into life in northern Ohio, but, according to her own words in a new interview, Khloe really meant what she said about marrying Tristan and spending the rest of her life with him.

Celebitchy was the first to point out Khloe’s words–no hiding behind an anonymous insider this time!–which came in a wide-reaching and otherwise unrelated talk with the UK’s Evening Standard.

Ostensibly, the main topic of discussion was body image and body shaming, something that Khloe’s had in her sights for months in the form of a new line of product placements and gym selfies on her Instagram page. Her relationship with Tristan comes up several times throughout, but it’s only at the very end that the tantalizing marriage nugget gets dropped. (Sit with that image a minute.)

Here’s the full exchange:

Before she goes I ask her whether having achieved so much so young, she still has goals? ‘I would love to have a family,’ she says. With Thompson? ‘We’ve talked about it. He [already] is a father, and I know for a fact that he would be an impeccable father. I definitely want to be a mom. But I don’t put the pressure on it. It’s not like, “the clock is ticking”. I feel in my soul it will happen.’

There are no immediate plans to walk down the aisle but she does say she has ‘never been in this type of love’. If he proposed, would she accept? ‘Yes I would.’ Spoiler alert? Only time will tell.

The most interesting thing about the interview is that once it raises the possibility of Khloe Kardashian engaged to Tristan Thompson, all the previous descriptions of their relationship will sound, to a Kardashian cynic, like the family wrapping its tentacles around an impressionable 26-year-old Canadian. Khloe’s description of the first time they encountered paparazzi together, while photographed via speedboat on a Mexican vacation? Just getting Tristan accustomed to the spotlight’s glare–and slyly portraying Khloe as the long-suffering victim:

I was like, “I’m so sorry”, and Tristan was like, “It’s okay”. You could tell that was a big pill to swallow. But he accepts who I am. He likes to protect me, which I haven’t had before — someone looking out for me almost before himself.’

And her recollection of their first (blind) date? A subtle suggestion that perhaps the two were truly meant to be together–that a divine hand was really responsible for their meeting:

The couple were introduced last August by a mutual friend. ‘He said: “I have someone I want you to meet.” I said: “Absolutely not. I don’t go on blind dates.”’ But when she met the basketball player (who has a four-month old son with his former girlfriend, model Jordan Craig) she says ‘we both felt this strong energy. I was like, oh this is such a nice, normal man — the normalcy is what I was craving.’ They discovered they had similar values. ‘I’m a Christian; he’s a believer in God and that’s important to me. Tristan’s morals and ethics are everything I’ve wanted and need in my life.’

Anyway. When Tristan, who has already appeared on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, does propose to Khloe, the next thing we’ll start hearing about will doubtless be the negotiations for a KUWTK wedding special.
