Jared Fogle formally charged with paying teens for sex, will serve at least five years in prison

Jared Fogle Charges

Former Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle appeared in the Indianapolis Federal Courthouse this morning, where he faced accusations for possessing child pornography, distributing child pornography, and traveling to engage in sexual conduct with minors. According to official court documents obtained by WISH, Fogle will plead guilty to the charges, which involve fourteen young victims.

The documents say a specific sentence has not been established, but Fogle agreed he will not ask for a prison term of less than 60 months and prosecutors will not request a sentence longer than 151 months. After his release from prison, Fogle will be on “supervised release” for at least five years–but possibly for the rest of his life.

Fogle is also ordered to undergo “a program of treatment for sexual disorders,” and must register as a sex offender.

The documents reveal that Jared has fourteen minor victims. He must pay each victim $100,000, for a total of $1.4 million in restitution. These funds will be used to “allow these victims to obtain counseling, support, treatment or other assistance related to their victimization.”

Subway-Jared-Fogle---Russ-Taylor

The Jared Fogle charges include accusations of receiving numerous images of child pornography from Russell Taylor, the former executive director of The Jared Foundation. Taylor was arrested this spring, which apparently prompted the investigation of Jared.

Jared is further accused of traveling to New York City multiple times “in order to engage in commercial sexual activity with [at least two] minors under the age of 18 years.” One of the victims said she had sex with Jared three times when she was 16 and once when she was 17, even though she disclosed her true age to him. She also said Jared asked her to set him up with other minors.

Additional records show Jared asked prostitutes in other cities around to arrange for meetings with minors and he would pay finders fees. He allegedly said “The younger the girl, the better.”

After Fogle’s home was raided in July, Subway suspended their long relationship with the diet spokesperson. Yesterday, the company addressed the allegations against Fogle in a terse tweet:

Fogle is expected to formally enter the plea at 11 a.m CST, after which point his attorney will make a statement. A news conference with prosecutors is scheduled for 12:30.
