Infant survives after being trapped for days beneath deceased dad
A baby girl from Sabine Parish, Louisiana is said to be in “good condition” after she was found pinned beneath the body of her deceased father.
The infant (between the ages of 10-11 months) may have been underneath her dad’s body for up to 3 days. Her brother (reports have his age between 3-5) went next door and told neighbors that he though his father, 43-year-old Jason Fields, was dead.
Sabine Parish Deputy Coroner Ron Rivers found Jason Fields’ body in an “advanced state of decomposition.” His body had slumped over and trapped the baby girl between himself and the wall.
Rivers said:
“It looked like he was sitting on the side of the bed on his computer, fell backwards and died. The fact that he fell on her and made no attempt to get up tells me he died instantly when he fell on top of her.”
Fields had a history of cardiac arrest, according to The Shreveport Times. Rivers believes that Fields likely died of sudden cardiac arrest and no foul play or drug use is suspected.
The baby was suffering from skin blisters and dehydration and was airlifted to University Health hospital in Shreveport. A relative told KSLA that she suffered a seizure when she was first brought in but as of their report yesterday she was active and playing with a stuffed animal.
Fields’ wife was incarcerated with only a few days left to serve when the tragedy happened. A judge allowed an early release for her to take care of her kids.
