Indian man, Krishnaiah, sells daughter to buy $21 of alcohol; police beat him
Alcoholism can be a desperate disease, but even the worst drunks would cringe at this news item from India.
A 40-year-old man named Krishnaiah sold his 6-year-old daughter for the equivalent of $21 to buy booze after he was refused credit one morning at his favorite liquor store because of outstanding debt.
His daughter was bought by Bhasha, who paid $21 in an auction that the police got wind of. When the cops busted up the event, they beat Krishnaiah, and Bhasha left the child at the scene.
