How Teen Mom’s Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley are getting along now that she’s in prison

Gary Shirley and his baby mama Amber Portwood have sure been through a lot, too much in fact — and fans of Teen Mom have seen it all. Although their relationship seems to be more toxic than anything, they seem to always end up back together, and Gary has been supportive of Amber through her toughest times.

Their relationship took a turn for the worse last season of Teen Mom, when the two got into a physical altercation on camera, and Amber had felony assault charges filed. Right now on the last season of Teen Mom, we’re watching as Amber deals with losing custody of her daughter, and faces the consequences for her assault charges and drug abuse.

On recent episode of Teen Mom, fans saw a hesitant Amber head to rehab in California. She had been battling addiction since the age of 13 and had been ordered by the court to attend rehab to deal with her anger management, mental health, and drug addiction. Gary continued to co-parent with her — even when they weren’t allowed with each other in Leah’s presence.

Gary was even seen holding hands with Amber, the mother of his 3-year-old daughter, Leah, when she turned herself in to an Indiana jail to begin her five-year sentence this year. Although things may looks as if the two are back on, Gary is setting the record straight. “Ok Amber and I aren’t together, she’s in prison,” he tweeted. “Just spoke with her today. First time in a couple weeks. It’s civil. And she’s very much loved.” Not only is he not dating Amber, he’s not dating period.

Fans will be glad to hear that Gary Shirley and Amber Portwood are keeping their distance — at least for now. Their relationship is tumultuous when they are together, and Amber will not even see the light of day for nearly three years, and that’s only if she gets out early on parole.
