How did Casey Johnson die? Diabetes and/or prescription drugs may have played a role

Socialite Casey Johnson, most recently in the news for her reported engagement to Tila Tequila, was found dead in her L.A. home January 4, 2010. She was only 30 years old. When she was found, she had been dead for several days and had not been heard from since December 29, 2009. Toxicology results will take weeks to come back, but there are several factors that may have led to Johnson’s death.

Heiress Casey Johnson suffered from juvenile (or Type1) diabetes, and has been hospitalized twice before for diabetic coma, including one hospitalization this year. It’s possible Casey could have slipped into another diabetic coma when she was home alone after a reported fight with ‘fiancee’ Tila Tequila.

There are also rumors linking Casey’s predilection for prescription drugs as a possible cause for her death. An unknown “source” close to Tila Tequila told Radaronline that when Tila first learned of Casey’s death, she suspected a prescription drug overdose. There have been numerous other anonymous friends coming out of the woodworks claiming Casey was on an intricate cocktail of drugs in the last years of her life, including Oxycontin, Klonopin, Valium, Xanax, Ativan, cocaine, marijuana and Ecstasy.

There are also many reports of Casey’s numerous failed attempts at rehab. In 2007 Casey adopted a daughter, Ava Monroe, from Kazakhstan, but the child was put in the custody of her mother, Sale Johnson, in early 2009 after Casey was found living with the young girl in a state of squalor similar to the disrepair in Gray Gardens. Her parents, Sale Johnson and Woody Johnson had also reportedly cut her off from the family fortunes until she sought rehab.

Some speculated that Casey might have been so distraught over her legal, financial, and social problems that she might have committed suicide, but police have now ruled out suicide as a cause of death.

Casey’s great-great-grandfather was Robert Wood Johnson I, a co-founder of Johnson & Johnson. Her father was Woody Johnson, who owned the New Yorks Jets, and had a substantial inheritance from the Johnson & Johnson empire. Casey made headlines close to a month ago after an unpleasant breakup with girlfriend Jasmine Lennard, allegedly breaking into Jasmine’s home and doing a number of illegal and strange things.
