Glee actor Cory Monteith found dead in Vancouver hotel room
Acting Vancouver Police Chief Doug LePard has confirmed Glee star Cory Monteith was found dead in his hotel room Saturday (July 13) shortly after noon. The 31-year-old actor’s body was discovered in the room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel after he missed his scheduled checkout time.
“On behalf of the Vancouver Police, I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, castmates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith,” LePard said in a statement. “As was the case in countless homes, I watched Glee regularly with my daughters, and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death.”
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, but LePard said authorities do not suspect foul play. Monteith’s key entry records and surveillance camera footage indicate he returned to his room early in the morning Saturday after being out with friends late Friday night. Lepard indicated that those people are being interviewed. UPDATE: The autopsy revealed that Cory’s cause of death was a overdose of heroin and alcohol.
Monteith, who played Finn Hudson on Glee, checked himself into a 30-day drug rehab facility in April to treat his ongoing drug addiction problem. His rep said in a statement at the time that Monteith “graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”
