George Zimmerman shot in apparent road rage incident
George Zimmerman reportedly suffered a minor gunshot wound in Florida today during an apparent road rage incident with another driver.
Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell told WESH the shooting involved Zimmmerman and one other man and occurred shortly before 2 p.m. He explained the encounter may have been related to an “ongoing dispute” between Zimmerman and the other man. A witness said Zimmerman was able to walk to an ambulance on his own. (UPDATE Zimmerman’s lawyer clarified to TMZ his client was injured by shattering glass, not a bullet.)
Last September, Zimmerman was questioned by officers after allegedly showing up at a man named Matthew Apperson’s place of work and threatening to kill him because of a traffic dispute. At the time, he was allowed to go when the other man declined to press charges. The Orlando Sentinel has since confirmed Apperson was the other person involved today. Police Chief Bracknell added in a later press conference that Zimmerman did not fire any shots of his own.
In January of this year, Zimmerman was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after reportedly throwing a wine bottle at his girlfriend. That was the latest in a series of arrests after he was acquitted in 2013 for the shooting death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.
