When faced with the prospect of her 6-year-old daughter coming under attack from a pack of aggressive dogs, a Florida mom chose to sacrifice her own safety to protect her child.

27-year-old Brandy Bookamer was walking near her Dayton North home along with her daughter on Sunday when 5 pit bulls allegedly attacked them, according to an official release from Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

It’s important to note that the official release singled out the breed (or classification) of the dog.

The release also detailed how Bookamer encouraged her daughter to flee home while she remained, acting as a shield. In doing so, she kept her daughter out of harm’s way while suffering numerous puncture wounds and lacerations — injuries so severe that she was taken by ambulance to the Flagler County Airport and then airlifted to Halifax Hospital by Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Air One.

Her injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

Animal control was called to the scene and took possession of all five of the suspect dogs. The top photo is the residence at which the attacking dogs were believed to be living.
