Facebook is finally adding a ‘dislike’ button…kind of
In a new interview with Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, it was revealed Facebook may be adding a “dislike”-type button. Mark explained, “People have asked about the ‘dislike’ button for many years. Today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it.”
He’s right. Fans of the social media mega site have been asking for a dislike button for a long time. Most agree their motivation in using a thumbs down would be to show their disapproval for various posts. However, Zuckerberg was quick to dispel rumors of how this button is intended to be used.
“Some people have asked for a dislike button because they want to be able to say ‘that thing isn’t good,’ and we’re not going to do that,” Zuckerberg said. “I don’t think that’s socially very valuable, or great for the community.”
He elaborated further by explaining the new button would be used primarily for offering sympathy to posts that seem awkward to “Like” such as deaths, natural disasters, and other unfortunate mishaps.
Zuckerberg didn’t say when we will see the new button added to our newsfeed.
