English man starts campaign to keep Nickelback from playing in London

Nickelback yo

One man has taken his dislike of Canadian pseudo-rockers Nickelback to an unhealthy extreme.

Or a very healthy one, depending on your perspective.

Craig Mandell, of London, England, has begun a Tilt campaign to keep the oft-maligned group from ever again playing a concert in his city.

Don’t Let Nickel Back” is based on a very simple premise: “With your help,” Mandell says, “we can ensure that the band do not schedule any gigs here, do not attempt to come here – nor even phone here.”

Mandell was inspired by the somewhat recent occurrence of the Foo Fighters playing a show in their hometown of Richmond, Virginia, where they hadn’t performed in years, after successful crowdsourcing made it so.

Here’s the manic British man’s spiel: Donate one dollar, and you get “an e-mail, written on your behalf, written to the management of Nickelback, kindly requesting that they do not play in London…for the foreseeable future.”

Five dollars gets you a slightly more forceful e-mail, and ten dollars results in an expletive-laden missive.

And, for fifty dollars, you get the e-mail, in addition to which Mandell will send Nickelback’s own music to the band, ensuring that the band “will hear their own music, and likely retire immediately, thereby ensuring the success of [the] campaign.”

(It is perhaps worth pointing out that Nickelback does not have any London shows on its current touring schedule.)

His is a solid idea, but Mandell is perhaps so fervent in his dislike of the band that he’s forgotten Nickelback has played many hundreds of concerts over the years, which means they are inured to any ill-effects of their songs on themselves.

Unless, of course, they are actually a group made up of sophisticated Nickelback cyborgs, sent back in time from a future paradise that a cabal of withered capitalists has no interest in letting ever occur…
