DETAILS: George R.R. Martin to pen ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 2 episode
HBO’s fantasy drama Game of Thrones wrapped up its first season two weeks ago to the thundering applause of fans and critics alike. Even those normally turned off by castles, swords and greasy bearded men found themselves enamored by the lush cinematics, great acting and a well-wrought, intricate plot. The latter of those positive qualities is thanks to author George R.R. Martin, whose series of books titled A Song of Ice and Fire were the source for the show.
Martin, who looks like the older brother of Mark Addy’s character King Robert Baratheon (See the mash-up photo above), penned the episode “The Pointy End” (perhaps the best of the season) and will do the same for Season 2 by authoring the ninth episode titled “Blackwater.” For readers of his books the title will indicate that Martin has picked what will probably be the climactic episode of the season that will feature the epic Battle of Blackwater Bay. From TVOverMind:
Fans who were disappointed with the lack of battle scenes in season one will not be disappointed with “Blackwater,” which will undoubtedly feature some really hardcore ship-fighting that would put Pirates of the Caribbean to shame. If the episode sticks to the scale of the books (which I’m sure it will), we’re looking at the most hardcore episode of Game of Thrones yet. And that includes the episode that had Khal Drogo ripping out a guy’s tongue through his throat (“The Pointy End,” coincidentally).
Updating his fans over the weekend on how busy his days are, Martin wrote on his blog: “At the moment I am finishing up the first draft of my script for the second season of the HBO series…”
Ugh. It is going to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long before Game of Thrones Season 2 gets to see the light of day! As I mentioned before in my post about the “cleaned up cast” at the Monte Carlo Television Festival I really believe this is the best new series of 2011 and I think it will be the first fantasy series to actually take home some bling come Emmy time. So, my advice to you if you haven’t seen it yet is… don’t watch it! Not yet anyways. Save it. Wait until a few weeks before Season 2 is set to premiere then either buy the box set or knock it out on HBO on the Go! I wouldn’t wish the hunger I feel for new episodes on anyone! đ
(Nah – you should go watch it right now.)
