Since the first few episodes, and even long meandering story-lines (not to mention the unadressed documentary film crew that follows both of the office staff) from U.S. The Office are plucked straight from the Ricky Gervais-created U.K. The Office, the fanboy fantasy of Michael Scott and David Brent is kind of minbendingly sci-fi. It’s like universes colliding!
But it’s going to happen! On January 27!
Office insider Paul Lieberstein spilled the details to New York Magazine’s Vulture after rumors of the of a Ricky Gervais cameo on the U. S. spinoff hit the internet a few days ago.
According to Lieberstein, Ricky secretly shot the segment (which will be seen on the January 27 cold open) when he was in L.A. for the Emmys this September. They even kept NBC in the dark about the appearance at the time, which means Ricky worked for free (don’t cry over his loss of income, as the show’s creator Ricky gets pretty hefty royalty checks for each episode.)
