Chris Pratt gained 60 pounds for a role after getting six-pack abs for Zero Dark Thirty
Parks and Recreation funnyman Chris Pratt has been really taking his body through the ringer this year. First he slimmed down and toned up (check the abs above!) to play a Navy SEAL in Zero Dark Thirty, and then he gained a whopping 60 pounds to play an overweight lawyer in Starbuck.
He was gaining weight so fast, it wasn’t even fun. He told Jay Leno this week:
“I gained 60 pounds in about four and a half months. I just did it the old fashioned way: eating and drinking my face off. I’ve lost a little bit of it, but it was hard. It was probably just as hard as losing weight. You wouldn’t believe it, but it is. It’s these same principle: It’s all about pain.”
But seriously, this guy was ripped. This is not the lovable and squishable Parks & Rec Andy I’ve come accustomed to:
He told E! Online:
“I worked out really hard and I cut out everything bad for me for a long time and I just focused on trying to become a believable Navy SEAL. I got to meet some of these guys through the course of making this movie. It was just important for me not to embarrass them, you know, to create a character that was somewhat believable as a SEAL.”
He said he put on the 60 pounds right after that to play a “fat and unhappy,” guy in Starbuck, a movie starring Vince Vaughn playing a guy who finds out he has 533 children from donating sperm.
In the middle of all this crazy weight gain, his lovely wife Anna Faris gave birth to their first child, Jack.
