Bristol Palin and ex-fiancé Dakota Meyer have agreed to legally change their 4-month-old daughter’s last name from Palin to Meyer.

People obtained court documents that reflected this change. Her name on her birth certificate will be changed from Sailor Grace Palin to Sailor Grace Palin Meyer.

Palin’s lawyer said, “Bristol consented to the change of name some time ago” adding that the pair are “talking directly and just being parents without involving the lawyers.”

This is a positive sign for the ex-couple who worked through a months-long custody battle. Meyer was awarded joint custody in April with the court granting him the right to visit his daughter twice a month for four consecutive days.

Palin left and moved back to Alaska so Meyer has to make these visits from his home in Kentucky.

On Sunday, Palin shared a photo of herself and Dakota holding their daughter. This came after Palin, also the mother of 7-year-old son Tripp with ex-fiancé Levi Johnston, spoke out about the importance of co-parenting following reports about her custody issues with Levi.

“These babies are my world and I will always be doing what is best for them. Every child deserves two loving parents, so I will continue to encourage that no matter what. I have never, and will never, keep them from having a positive relationship with their fathers. I did not “lose” any custody case – my son has always spent most of his time with me and he will continue to do so, he is happy, healthy, and knows both of his parents love him,” she wrote.
