Two Boston Marathon Bombings victims identified: Krystle Campbell and Martin Richard
There are still no answers about who was behind the tragic Boston Marathon bombing that occurred yesterday afternoon. Close to 200 victims were injured, with some in critical condition, and three people have reportedly lost their lives. 8-year-old Martin Richard (pictured above) and 29-year-old Krystle Campbell, and 23-year-old Boston University statistics grad student Lu Lingzi were killed in the twin blasts.
Martin’s father Bill issued this statement:
“My dear son Martin has died from injuries sustained in the attack on Boston. My wife and daughter are both recovering from serious injuries. We thank our family and friends, those we know and those we have never met, for their thoughts and prayers.”
I ask that you continue to pray for my family as we remember Martin. We also ask for your patience and for privacy as we work to simultaneously grieve and recover. Thank you.”
The young boy’s mom Denise Richard and 6-year-old sister Jane Richard were also seriously injured as they all waited together to cheer on dad Bill Richard, who was participating in the marathon.
29-year-old Krystle Campbell was also at the marathon to cheer on a friend. Her mother said she worked hard in the food service industry, often pulling in 16 hours days. “She didn’t deserve this,” Patty Campbell told ABC affiliate WCVB. “She was a beautiful young being. She loved pets. She loved people.”
Her dad, William Campbell Jr. told Yahoo News, “My daughter was the most lovable girl. She helped everybody and I’m just so shocked right now. We’re just devastated. She was a wonderful, wonderful girl. Always willing to lend a hand.”
Because of a mix-up at the hospital, Krystle’s parents thought she was alive, but went to see the injured girl, Krystle’s Karen Rand, they realized it was not her daughter.
The third victim, Lu Lingzi, was a Chinese student studying statistics at Boston University. At first the US and Chinese authorities did not release her name at the wishes of her parents, but her name did eventually leak. According to The New York Times Lu was cheering for a friend in the marathon.
