Who is Bravo’s ‘Work of Art’ judge Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn?

Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn

Work of Art: The Next Great Artistis Bravo’s newest reality competition featuring 14 fine artists competing for $200,000 and a show at the Brooklyn Museum. Sitting on the judge’s panel will be host China Chow, Simon de Pury, Bill Powers, Jerry Saltz and New York gallery owner and art collection consultant Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn.

Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn was born Jeanne Greenberg in St. Louis, Missouri to art loving parents Ronnie Greenberg, a renowned art dealer, and Jane Greenberg, an art educator. Jeanne Greenberg became Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn after marrying her current husband Nicolas Rohatyn in 1997.

Nicolas is the son of banker (and former Ambassador to France) Felix Rohatyn, who helped Jeanne launch her professional art career. According to Forbes Nicolas is Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of TRG Management L.P. as well as the investment manager of the TRG Global Opportunity Master Fund, Ltd. Jeanne and Nicolas have three children together.

Jeanne studied art at Vassar College and continued on with graduate work at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts.  During these studies she not only was the Assistant Curator for Contemporary Art at the Brooklyn Museum but also became the curatorial assistant to Norman Rosenthal at the Royal Academy of London.  That’s the high-caliber calling card for ‘Judge Jeanne’ from Bravo’s upcoming fine art reality competition show Work of Art!

Work of Art's Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn profile

Jeanne and her husband Nicolas opened up the now famous cutting edge experimental space Salon 94 in 2002.  Located on 12 East 94th Street in Manhattan, Salon 94 is a former orphanage that is now a thriving space for emerging and mid-career artists on the first floor and Jeanne and Nicolas’ home above.  The list of notable artists who have shown in the space include Francesca Demattio, Katy Grannan, Amy Besone, Marilyn Minter, Wang Qingsong, Julie Mehretu, David Hammons, and Paula Hayes.

Following up on the success of their first Salon 94 venture Jeanne and Nicolas opened up Salon 94 Freemans on the Lower East Side.  Not one to rest on her art laurels and completely lacking an aversion to success, the Salon 94 franchise is already looking at location number three with the opening of Salon 94 Bowery in September.

In a great New York Times Profile In Style Jeanne has the following to say about being a part of Work of Art: The Next Great Artist.

‘‘Art is inefficient, hard to find and often difficult to grasp.  If showing the process of making and talking about it can appeal to a broad audience, I want to be a part of that dialogue. We ended up having a hilarious time.”

I think Jeanne is in line to be Work of Art‘s Nina Garcia and I think she’ll be able to fill those Jimmy Choos admirably!

As a bizarro bonus I’m going to wrap this post up with a video of some random artist dude walking into Salon 94 and asking about getting a show there:
