On tonight’s Real Housewives oF Atlanta special episode with the men Apollo claimed that he was arrested because he just got caught up in some allegations brought against “somebody else.” Since then, he had pled guilty to fraud charges. There have been rumors in the press that Apollo and Phaedra were having marital troubles ever since he was arrested this January, and tonight Apollo admitted that the charges were straining his relationship with Phaedra. Are they still together.
Apollo is publicly defending his wife, saying that she had never committed a crime despite Angela Stanton’s accusations about her. Phaedra is currently suing Angela for defamation over a book she wrote titled Lies of a Real Housewife, accusing Phaedra of masterminding illegal schemes with Angela and Apollo.
Apollo opened up to Peter, Gregg, and Todd about how his fraud charges were affecting his marriage. “Right now it’s a lot on the plate but all I need to hear from my wife is ‘Baby, don’t worry about it, we’re in this together.’ And see, that’s where a lot of times the issues be, because I don’t feel like my partner is there.” Gregg tried to comfort Apollo by saying “I bet you, deep down inside, if there was an inside meter that we could gauge people by, she’s on your side. She’s still on your team.” Gregg then advised Apollo “It’s not up to you to let her heal to come back, it’s up to you to go get your wife and bring her back. You got to lose to win in a lot of cases, but as long as the family wins in the end, that’s all that matters.
In a recent interview with Sister 2 Sister magazine, Apollo opened up about his marriage, and how he now thinks getting married to Phaedra so quickly maybe wasn’t the best thing. “It might’ve been the wrong thing to do, considering all things. But for me it was structure. For her, she knew that she could trust me. I’ve always lived on my own. For me, I was like, “Okay, if I get married, then I can’t just run and be sneaking. I can’t go to L.A. and not come home. You have to report back to somebody.”
Apollo knows that his fraud charges reflect poorly on Pheadra and Bravo “Phaedra—I’m sure she’s nervous because at the end of the day, ‘I’m [Phaedra] putting my career in jeopardy, putting my connections, everything on the line dealing with you.’ It’s bad for Bravo. It’s bad for me. I’m trying to project myself in a more positive light. I mean, hell, I just came from speaking to Vanderbilt and Tennessee State. You’re talking, like, 2,000-plus children, and trying to tell them ‘Do the right thing.'” But even though he knows it’s been rough for Phaedra and Bravo, and they don’t like him speaking to the media, he’s doing it anyway. “Oh, [Phaedra] doesn’t like it, just like the network. But enough’s enough. At some point you get fed up with certain things and you feel like, “You know what? I do have an opinion.”
He didn’t come out and say that he and Phaedra are separated, or possibly headed toward divorce, but he ended the interview leaving the impression that that’s what’s gong on. “Well, I definitely love her. I’ve grown to love her more. At one point, I was her biggest fan. I really was,” he says. “I really admired everything that she did as a woman. I think that we have lost sight of the true picture, which is that we did take an oath to God and we did build a family and a brand. Whatever has come of this reality fiasco, we have had two beautiful children, and at the end of the day, I only wish her the best. I can’t say if it’s going to last. But I hope that it does last, but there’s an issue with the “hope” and the “but” in a sentence. If something doesn’t change and we don’t start to cherish and respect one another, then I refuse to be miserable, hands down.”
Even if they aren’t apart now, they may be physically forced apart soon because Apollo faces 30 years in prison for pleading guilty to bank, wire, and mail fraud. He’ll be sentenced July 8, 2014.
