Did Lady Gaga try to game the Billboard charts?

Lady Gaga, who is knee deep in drama lately, stepped out yesterday for the new phase of her ARTPOP look in her giant blond wig that looks like she scalped Nicky from Orange is the New Black, and some pixelated Lennon glasses. Yesterday Bill Werde, the editorial director of the Billboard charts called out Lady Gaga on Twitter for inflating her music video views.

Gaga, who held a contest asking for fans to send her “purchase/gift screenshots, radio requests, ‘Applause’ selfies/video” to enter into a contest to meet Gaga and attend the iTunes Festival in London, pulled another trick to chart Tuesday night. She tweeted and Facebooked a link to a playlist that allowed her fans to let their computer or device play the “Applause” video 150 times, which is a total of 9 hours of viewing. Billboard include data from Vevo and Youtube when calculating the music charts.

Of course, when Werde called out this practice, he had to defend himself against an onslaught of Gaga fans, but he held his own in a respectful and dignified manner.
