When someone steals something from you it just isn’t right. When that something happens to be the famous yellow Anthony Price suit from Duran Duran’s smash hit music video for “Rio” well the story is just b-a-n-a-n-a-s!
Such is the sad case for the lead singer of Duran Duran Simon Le Bon. In a recent interview with Q Magazine he spoke about the tragic disappearance of the fine fitting fabric he affectionately called ‘banana.’
“I haven’t seen that suit for two decades. It got nicked. That was the ‘banana’ suit. I used to give all my suits names. Some men give their penis a name, I used to name my suits.”
I have to admit that I didn’t remember the banana suit too well because I was more interested in the neon painted bikini babes wielding knives and such from the video. Alas, I’m sure this bit of information will sadden many a hard core Duran Duran fan. In memoriam, here’s the legendary 80’s music video for “Rio” that made Le Bon’s ‘banana’ famous:
Wait one minute! Was that some in your face speedo action? Video directors just had more guts back then man. Anyways, I’ve concocted a theory as to what has happened to Le Bon’s ‘banana’ since it was stolen:
Somewhere in middle America a regular Joe is told by his wife to head to the bedroom for a little “quality time.” She lights some candles and puts in the old Duran Duran cassette and brings out that dusty old yellow suit she got at a “yard sale” and asks him to put it on. Being the faithful husband he obliges, even though it isn’t close to fitting, but he’s always put off a little bit when she asks, “Can I call you Simon?”
That’s just my theory of course.
