Lollapalooza and Coachella festivals ban selfie sticks

Selfie Sticks banned at Lollapalooza and Coachella festivals

If you’re getting all packed for festival season then you may have a little bit extra room where you thought your selfie stick was going to go. That’s right, you’re going to have to Instagram your Coachella and Lollapalooza experience(s) using only your old-fashioned pair of arms, or possibly by lifting someone willing to take the photo onto your shoulders, as both festivals have recently officially banned the camera arm extensions from their events.

Coachella made it official by adding “No Selfie sticks / Narsisstics” to their General Rules section.

Meanwhile, Lollapalooza listed “GoPro attachments like sticks, selfie sticks & monopods” under their FAQ section titled “The following items are NOT ALLOWED at Lollapalooza.”

Coachella is set to kick off its two-weekend festival on April 10 while Lollapalooza begins July 31. So far there has been no official ban (yet) from Bonnaroo, Governors Ball and Sasquatch.

In case you were completely unaware, selfie sticks are extensions that allow you to take photos with your cell phone (and possibly your camera as well) from a distance so you can fit more into the frame with your self portrait. They are most often blue tooth enabled and can extend your selfie taking ability up to a distance of 30 feet or more. You can pick up the ones featured in the photo above at www.rollei.com.
