Woman says her newly adopted 1950s lifestyle saved her marriage, thinks all women should do it

1950s Marriage - Daily Mail

When Mandy Jones decided a 1950s lifestyle would improve her “stuck in a rut” marriage, she didn’t just throw on a poodle skirt and call it a day: She and husband Gary Jones fully committed by redesigning their British home in the style of an old American diner and driving a 1949 Chevy.

“We spent our weekends drinking at the pub until the early hours and it just got so boring,” Mandy told The Daily Mail of the state of her marriage before altering eras five years ago. “It may seem strange and we get the odd nasty comment, but this way of life works for us and has saved our marriage.”

Now, when the couple endures a tough day, Mandy makes them a nice home-cooked meal and they turn on the jukebox for a little Lindy Hopping. They also base their social calendar around 1950s-type dances and exclusively wear era clothing.

In fact, the Jones’ new lifestyle works so well, Mandy thinks everyone should try to keep up with them.

“We’re a lot happier living in the 1950s way, it has improved our marriage and enriched our lives,” said the 49-year-old housewife. “1950s marriages definitely work better than marriages these days… The divorce rate is so high at the moment and it never used to be in the past. We should all take advice from our grandparents and start living the Fifties way.”

May be a bit odd but she actually has a point. Divorce rates were really lowered back then. I know women were more surpressed back then which may have been why, but it honestly would probably do the world some good if we took a look back and slowed down in life.

as a black woman, I’m quite happy not living a 50s lifestyle because I don’t want to be anyones maid!

I’m not sure her plunging neckline and short dress are straight from the 50’s, but sounds like a fun concept.

The divorce rate was so low because women were brood mares and slaves to their husbands and families and swept abuse under the rug.. With that being said, adopting a lifestyle that truly helps your marriage is a great thing, whether it be this or something else. Every marriage is different, so this wouldn’t work for everybody, but sometimes ya just have to switch things up and do things that go against the norm or outside of your comfort zone.

Maybe they are happier because they have found a common interest. It must have taken a lot of work, and working together to transform their life back 60 years. Maybe that’s the key- a common interest other than drunken nights at the pub. And who doesn’t love a good homemade comfort meal at the end of a hard day??

I would have never guessed she was year away from 50. She looks great. If that gave them something fun to do together why not? I do wonder how many 1950s sock hops there are that they base their calendar around.

That’s what I was thinking. She looks amazing!

I come from that era – life was so much less complicated; Kids were in no danger of being molested – they could play outside and be alone for a few minutes while mom has to run into the home to get something; it was still a good life with only one parent working; people had respect for one another – everyone was willing to help one another schools were so much better, etc..
Women was NOT ‘brood mares’ as one commenter labeled those women – rather women received more respect from their husband because they had time and will to be a good wife; that does not take value from women.
I’d rather would live in that environment that this mundane era – full of crime; kids having no respect for anyone; divorces almost up to 47%, out of control sex by young adults age 16 and under, unemployment causing hardship in families, bad schools among other issues.
