Woman says her newly adopted 1950s lifestyle saved her marriage, thinks all women should do it

1950s Marriage - Daily Mail

When Mandy Jones decided a 1950s lifestyle would improve her “stuck in a rut” marriage, she didn’t just throw on a poodle skirt and call it a day: She and husband Gary Jones fully committed by redesigning their British home in the style of an old American diner and driving a 1949 Chevy.

“We spent our weekends drinking at the pub until the early hours and it just got so boring,” Mandy told The Daily Mail of the state of her marriage before altering eras five years ago. “It may seem strange and we get the odd nasty comment, but this way of life works for us and has saved our marriage.”

Now, when the couple endures a tough day, Mandy makes them a nice home-cooked meal and they turn on the jukebox for a little Lindy Hopping. They also base their social calendar around 1950s-type dances and exclusively wear era clothing.

In fact, the Jones’ new lifestyle works so well, Mandy thinks everyone should try to keep up with them.

“We’re a lot happier living in the 1950s way, it has improved our marriage and enriched our lives,” said the 49-year-old housewife. “1950s marriages definitely work better than marriages these days… The divorce rate is so high at the moment and it never used to be in the past. We should all take advice from our grandparents and start living the Fifties way.”
