After Teen Mom 2 returns on Wednesday night, MTV’s providing something of a content balance with the premiere of Virgin Territory. Similar to the show that precedes it, the docuseries follows a group of young people making interesting life choices — just, in the case of Virgin Territory, there’s no chance of unplanned pregnancies.
The series follows 15 young people under the age of 25 who all abstain from sex for a variety of reasons. From MTV: “We’ll have young people who can’t wait to get laid and young people who want to wait until they get married. We’ll have young people looking for Mr. or Ms. Right, and young people looking for a good partner for now.”
We don’t know the complete Virgin Territory cast yet, but here’s a look at five of the celibate stars…
Lisa Youngerman, 23
With her wedding quickly approaching, the bride-to-be is bracing to lose her virginity — and while she is nervous, her fiancé is very excited. Lisa chose celibacy for religious reasons. (Spoiler: After her post-wedding night confessional, Lisa apparently doesn’t appear on the show.)
Dominique Sullivan, 22
Dominique lives by the motto “no ringy, no dingy.” Dominique decided to abstain from sex until marriage after watching a few family members get pregnant out-of-wedlock.
“Being a virgin doesn’t mean you can’t be sexy and vibrant,” she says on the show, according to The New York Daily News. “It just means you don’t have to ‘do it… You can only lose your virginity once, so I want to make sure it’s the right person.”
Luke Conger, 22
Luke is a pastor’s son from a small town in Minnesota who earned a reputation as a “kissing bandit” after going to college in Virginia. Although he stops himself from going all the way, Luke admits he struggles to control his hormones for the sake of his religious convictions.
Mikaela Sims, 19
Mikaela is on a mission to have sex so her friends stop singling her out as the virgin of the group. The problem is, Mikaela is specifically searching for a “nice tattooed, alternative hipster” and fears she’ll have to lower her standard to find the right partner.
Kyle Danserau, 20
Kyle is described as a popular college guy who is just too nervous to seal the deal with a girl.
“I can’t make a move,” he tells friends when revealing he’s still a virgin. “I’m just not good at that.”
However, things might get a bit easier with an old flame returns home and volunteers to help Kyle punch his V-card.
Virgin Territory premieres on MTV on Wednesday, July 16 at 11/10c.
