Is Ben Wyatt’s game Cones of Dunshire a real game people can actually play?

Parks & Recreation‘s season finale last night had A LOT of crazy stuff going on. Light SPOILERS below.

They’re trying to make Leslie Knope move on to bigger and better things while also staying in Pawnee. She’s also carrying triplets, and Ben Wyatt’s complicated Settlers of Catan-type board game involving large cones actually took off. Is it possible to even play this game in real life?

The game made it’s debut on the show last fall when Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott) was unemployed for a week. Instead of vegging out on Netflix like normal people, he used his free time to develop Cones of Dunshire, which he explains excitedly to his wife Leslie Knope, who tries to stay away during the process. Ben says the purpose of the game is “to accumulate cones: Four cones wins, but in order to get a cone you have to build a civilization … which is where the Spirit Cards come in.” The rules and eccentricities of the game all seem a bit much, but it turns out this is a real game you can play and not some nonsense cobbled together for comedic effect.

While it is not for sale yet, the game was created for the show by Settlers of Catan publisher Mayfair Games. This summer at the Indianapolis GenCon Maybair Games plans to stage a live game for charity. If you’re itching to play Cones of Dunshire with 8-12 of your closest friends, you’ll have to wait until August, which is the planned rolled out date for a retail version of the game.
