Why Zooey Deschanel doesn’t want children
Zooey Deschanel gave an honest interview to Marie Claire for the May 2012 issue, talking about being bullied as a chubby girl, critics of her cute-girl hipster charm, how she thinks dating questions are silly because she’s still going through a divorce, and why she doesn’t want kids.
It’s refreshing to hear a Hollywood starlet be honest about not wanting to be a parent. Many of them do, but sometimes it just seems like they’re saying what they need to say to present a certain persona, and then when they don’t have kids, tabloids and critics turn them into woeful victims of childlessness (Jennifer Aniston maybe?)
When asked about children by the magazine, Zooey said her bigger focus is really work, and she’s satisfied being an aunt to sister Emily Deschanel’s son.
“That’s never been my focus… My sister [Emily] was always very motherly, babysitting and stuff. I like kids, and I like being around kids – but it was never an ambition, something, like, I need…I like working. That’s what I like doing. I like to work.”
Not every woman has an intense desire to become a mother, so it’s refreshing to have a celebrity be so open about wanted a childless life.
