VIDEO Neil Young “Long May You Run” on Conan O’Brien’s last Tonight Show

Neil Young plays Long May You Run for Conan O'Brien's last night on The Tonight Show

Conan O’Brien ended his 20-plus years of working for NBC tonight and not only did he do it with class and dignity, he did it with the Godfather of Grunge Neil Young!!

Conan introduced Neil Young by saying that after it was announced that Conan would no longer be the host of The Tonight Show, Neil was the first to call and offer his support. Neil delivered an acoustic performance of “Long May You Run” that must have punched Conan right in the chrome heart:

Just as he mentioned during the show, Conan is a pretty lucky dude. In my experience, when most folks get fired after 7 months they don’t even get a musical card, much less a musical performance by Neil Young! I hope the unemployment rate doesn’t skyrocket when Neil Young fans with unrealistic expectations show up for work tomorrow ready willing and able to get terminated and get terminated quick!

Here are the lyrics to “Long May You Run” by Neil Young:

We’ve been through
some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do
in stormy weather
Long may you run.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining
in the sun
Long may you run.

Well, it was
back in Blind River in 1962
When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift
on the long decline
Long may you run.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining
in the sun
Long may you run.

Maybe The Beach Boys
have got you now
With those waves singing “Caroline No”
Rollin’ down that empty ocean road
Gettin’ to the
surf on time.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining
in the sun
Long may you run.
