It has been almost exactly five years since The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville appeared on Watch What Happens Live and had already plead the fifth once when she was forced to answer Andy Cohen’s question: “Who is the most famous person besides Eddie Cibrian that you have hooked up with?” Brandi paused for a moment before revealing, “Uh, Gerard Butler.”
An incredulous (and giddy) Andy asked if the hook up was a one night stand, and Brandi replied: “No, it wasn’t a one nighter, it was just like a little week of fun.” She was later asked to rate how much fun Gerard was on a scale of one to ten, and Brandi answered “11.”
That brief Q&A sent shock waves through the celebrity blogosphere, shock waves that would eventually reach Gerard himself in the form of TMZ paparazzi wanting to know about his tryst with Brandi Glanville. Gerard’s response garnered almost as much attention as Brandi’s confession: “Who’s Brandi Glanville?”
OK, fast forward five years and Gerard is a guest on Watch What Happens Live along with his Den of Thieves co-star 50 Cent to promote the movie. Somehow, Andy manages to get through the entire on-air episode without bringing up Brandi Glanville, and it is only in the last half of the After Show that he sees an opportunity to segue from a caller’s question.
Here’s the video followed by a recap of the hilarious Gerard and Brandi segment:
“What is the most bizarre rumor that you have ever heard about yourself?” the caller asks the actor.
Gerard seems a bit stumped, despite feeling as though he “hears a lot of them all the time.”
Andy seizes the opportunity: “We had Brandi Glanville on the show a few years ago and she kind of spurted out that you two had had a fling — were you shocked by that, when that got in the news?”
Gerard chews nervously on his finger as 50 Cent leans forward excitedly. “How did that go?” 50 Cent asks.
“So anyway, there was a rumor that –” Gerard begins as everyone starts to laugh. “Yeah, no, that was um — I, I didn’t — I had no idea who she was.”
“Right!” says Andy.”
Gerard continues: “I kept saying ‘So what do you do?’ and she goes: ‘It doesn’t matter, it’s not important.’ And then we hung out.”
“You mean when you met her, you didn’t know…that she was on TV or anything like that?” Andy asks.
“I had no idea, and um, and it was kind of a crazy time in my — anyway, we hung out, we had fun, and then I never saw her again. So, suddenly, I was walking down the street with a director and these guys from TMZ come running down the street going ‘Hey, what about you and Brandi Glanville?’ And I’m like, ‘Who’s Brandi Glanville?’ Because I didn’t even know her last name. So. I’m like, ‘Who’s Brandi Glanville?’ She got pretty upset about that.”
50 Cent offers up 1/25th of his cents: “But that don’t count. If you don’t know her last name, then that didn’t happen.”
“OK,” Gerard says laughing, “Then I’m a virgin!” he proudly proclaims.
Too Fab did a post about Gerard’s appearance on WWHL with the title “Gerard Butler Cringes Recalling Brandi Glanville Hookup: ‘I Had No Idea Who She Was'” Too Fab sister site TMZ shared the article on social media, which caught the attention of Brandi — who, of course, had to respond:
To Gerard’s credit, I didn’t think he said ANYTHING derogatory about Brandi! He did cringe, but it was my impression that he was cringing about the fact that the story came out — and how it came out — not that he slept with Brandi. He seemed to be in complete agreement with her that the two of them had a fun time together.
She appeared a little more calm with her next two tweets:
In Brandi’s defense, I would normally condemn her 100% for revealing someone famous that she had a fling with, but she was playing “Plead the Fifth” and she had already plead the fifth. Wahtcha gonna do? Dems da rules! I’m sure 50 Cent would agree.
