VIDEO Balloon Boy press conference announcement by Richard Heene

Richard Heene holds a press conference at which he makes the announcement he has made a suggestion box for reporters to put questions in

Crazy is as crazy does. Richard Heene, father of the infamous “Balloon Boy” Falcon Heene, told reporters at around 5:30 A.M. this morning, “I’m going to have a press conference out here at, let’s say, 10 a.m. Okay? … So it’s a few more hours. So, I’d like to speak everybody about a few things. Okay? So, it’s a big announcement.”

After about five hours of speculation – Was he going to confess that the stunt was a hoax? Was he going to reveal he is actually an alien? Maybe he was going to try to “make things right” by launching another balloon, this time with Falcon actually in it?

Oh wait, here he is!

Huh? A suggestion box? It took him five hours to build a suggestion box?!?

As a seasoned celebrity journalist who has been blogging about this sort of thing for well over 50 years, I think I see the potential for media longevity here. But, it’s not going to come from the press continuing to cover the wacky antics of the Heene family as they enjoy chasing storms and making scientific inquiry fun (which I’m sure is what the Heene’s had in mind when they pitched the idea of a reality show based on their lives to numerous television networks). No, this story is going to continue to remain in the news because of Richard Heene’s crazy attempts to stay out of the news!

Camera crews and paparazzi will be following him and his family around all day every day, hounding him with constant questions about Balloon Boy and whether or not it was a hoax, causing Richard to get VERY angry – and America is going to LOVE him when he’s angry! I foresee ridiculous media-mocking costumes, shirtless rooftop diatribes, home-made smokescreens and interstate police chases! As if I needed to tell anyone…STAY TUNED!

Here’s a couple photos of the suggestion box from TMZ.com:
