VIDEO Alternate LOST endings from Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Lost writers and producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse

Lost writers and producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse joined in on Lostapalooza during Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, filming a few exclusive “alternate endings” for the alluringly enigmatic drama series.

I think a M*A*S*H/Lost M*A*S*H-up would have worked well, too. After all, M*A*S*H was basically a bunch of radically different personalities stuck on a tropical land mass with people getting killed all around seemingly without reason. It too ended with an airborne departure and a realization by the people who went through it that their time spent suffering there was the most meaningful of their lives. Plus, it would have been dang funny! (Alan Alda’s always available for a good skit)

Oh – how about a Gilligan spoof? Too easy?

As far as the actual Lost finale I thought they did a magical job of converting six years of killing and heartache into a joyous moment shared by one and all – including the viewers. That being said, there still seemed to be a lot of questions unanswered in the “mysterious things that will all be explained later” category.

But all in all I thought it was a great ending to one of the most purely entertaining and well-made television shows in the history of the genre. There’s nothing out there on television right now that is as rewarding to me as far as “texture” – the visual texture, the texture of the audio, the texture of the faces of the characters, the textures of the characters lives… it was all so perfectly crafted! My TV is an archaic hulking beast from 12 years ago, but watching Lost made me believe – if just for an hour a week – that I had hi-def like everybody else.

I’ll miss you mysterious island!
